HOW WE CAME TO BE
(AS TOLD BY LORI RENNEKAMP, BOUTIQUE OWNER):
As a former English teacher, I can tell you that words are important. Words combined to form sentences hold meaning, even power. They can be so powerful, in fact, that they can change a life.
Let me tell you about the words (in the form of a quote) that changed my life.
FIRST, HERE'S THE BACK STORY:
*Fresh-out-of-college teacher loves her job. She teaches for almost five years before her first baby comes along. She leaves her teaching job because she wants more time with her baby, so she goes to work part time in a dental office. It's wonderful--there is plenty of flexibility with the hours for growing and raising a family. She will return to teaching when the time is right. Fast forward to 12 years later...she has never returned to teaching. She also feels like she's lost herself a little. She's doing some heavy soul searching, wondering what her role in the world is now (besides being a wife and momma to three girls). She's ready to go out and find her niche, her place in the world where she can make her mark, however big or small. She's getting closer to 40 and realizing how quickly the one life she's been given is moving.*

Okay! That brings us to August 30, 2015. I was sitting in our kitchen that night, mindlessly scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed. Everyone else was asleep, but I was restless. A simple two sentence quotation about a bird caught my eye, and in the time it took to read it, Bird in a Tree Boutique was born. I knew in that moment, without a shadow of a doubt, that I was going to open a store. Not only would it offer accessibility to trendy women's clothing, unique accessories and more, it would inspire others to believe in themselves. I didn't sleep that night-not a bit-because I couldn't stop thinking of ways to make this happen. And I haven't stopped thinking and planning since!! When you visit the store, you will see a version of the quote right behind the checkout counter. I hope it inspires everyone who reads it, just as it inspired me.

So there you have it! The boutique is more than just a retail store. It is proof that dreams can become reality. It is a place to celebrate and support our community, a place that will encourage and inspire...and it was born from one simple quote, made up of two sentences, made up of many powerful words.
